Before, during and after shots of a kitchen remodel project in 2009 by Kalamazoo Custom Kitchens and Baths, Inc.
This Chicago couple and family of 4, soon-to-be empty nesters, wanted to live on a lake near corporate headquarters. They chose this beautiful setting in Portage, MI. Now that the kids are in college, they can eventually retire in this wonderful home. They wanted to take this contemporary style home and turn it into a more traditional style. Because of the open area to the hall, family room, dining space and kitchen, the style must flow and connect them. Not only did the kitchen need remodeling, but the stair case, fireplace and front entry all needed the new touches.
The couple enjoy entertaining and needed to keep their island in the kitchen, but improve the work flow. With the change of finish and cabinets, and added glass doors, we were able to give the new kitchen a more open and warm feel. Putting the induction cook top in the island with a downdraft, greatly increased the ease of cooking and entertaining since the last place for the food before being served is generally centered around the cook top. What an appetizing and easy way to serve their guests. When the granite counters were installed that complemented the paint/glaze color, the wood floor color was chosen that provides a rich contrast to the cabinets and really makes this kitchen, with view to the dining and lake, a very inviting place to be.
